Day by Day

“…inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJ

Sometimes Christians just don’t get this essential point – we are being renewed every day!!

We may feel stale and out of touch, but each day we wake up to a renewed fellowship with Jesus Christ.

None of us is the same person we were yesterday.  With each passing day we all change mentally, physically, emotionally, and, according to the scriptures, spiritually. Day by day the Holy Spirit is changing us spiritually as “we are being transformed into the same image” of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18).

An essential part of that transformation is our daily communication with God. Perhaps we think that, because we know God is always present, there isn’t the need to contact Him. It is like living in the same house as someone, knowing that he or she is always or usually around, and yet never talking to him or her. Imagine being in a marriage where you know your partner is always there somewhere in the background of your life and yet you rarely speak to one another.

Listening to and speaking to God brings Him from the background into the centre of your life. It is acknowledging His presence. It is stating that you have an active relationship with Him. It means that you don’t take that relationship for granted, that you value the contact.

Our everyday talk with God is part of not losing heart. It lifts us up. It renews our inward being, our very soul.

At the beginning of each year there is a human custom about making resolutions to change and to get around to doing some things that we have put off doing. Maybe your daily walk with God is one of those things that never really seem to get off the ground.  Is your daily walk actually a weekly shuffle during church? Perfunctory at best?  Think about committing yourself to a daily relationship with God as you begin 2010. Read His word. Talk with Him. Pray. Open your heart to Him.

This year, be renewed day by day.

Prayer

Father in Heaven, thank you that you are there each day of my life. Forgive me that sometimes I take that presence for granted. Help me to take the time to talk to you each day, on my part to renew that relationship with you every day. Thank that you hear me and please let your Spirit guide me into a daily conversation with you. I pray this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
