We Shouldn’t Be Surprised.

Following the Passover meal with His disciples, Jesus said:

“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”
John 15:18-19 (KJV)

In recent weeks the media have carried reports about a Christian nurse who was taken to task for offering to pray for one of her patients, plus a child who was told not to discuss her Christian faith in school. Jesus’ words quoted above give us the reason for these responses, and comfort us when we encounter such hostility from carnal minds. Remember that so were we once upon a time.

Striving to follow the example of our Lord and Master we also should remember and obey His words:
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).

How can we do this? Only by letting Christ live in us and striving to build our house on the Rock-see Philippians 2:5-11; Matthew 7:24-25.

Prayer
Great and merciful Heavenly Father, Thank you for your gracious intervention in our lives. Please help us to let your Son, Christ Jesus, live in us and be heard and seen in us. Please help us to heed Jesus’ words and build our house on the Rock.
Amen
