They Say Peace, Peace…But…

“They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, Saying, ‘Peace, Peace!’ When there is no Peace.”
Jeremiah 6:14 (NKJV)

Is there peace on this earth? Why is the world is in chaos and devoid of peace? Are you surprised to find no peace? I am not, because the Bible is very specific about it. God says in Romans 3:17-18, “And the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” While we read in Proverbs 16:25 that,  “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

In recent times never was peace so far away from the hearts and minds of people. Nations are at each others throats, violence is spreading like wild fire. The problem of migrants and refugees in Europe seems to be wearing down the EU leaders and their patience is running low.

Every day you hear of horror and suffering and killings and violence as a daily reality. Look at Syria, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, North and South Korea to name a few who are broiled in turmoil and there is the threat of brutality of ISIS and Boko Haram. What a world we are living in. Families are torn apart by the ravaging cancer of divorce and to be politically correct same sex marriages and abortions are legalized by many western nations. It is a fact before our eyes. No one can deny that. As in the days of Noah so it shall be in the later days, said Jesus.

The U.S Secretary of State John Kerry is tirelessly travelling to and fro to negotiate peace among warring nations and factions. He must be the most disappointed person because as soon as the peace treaty and agreements are signed, they are soon broken. At times they may hold for a while and there may be a temporary period of truce through cease fire, but it too crumbles quickly. There is NO LASTING PEACE. I admire the tenacity, skill, diplomacy, patience, courage, and endless effort of John Kerry, but to little avail. On human terms to achieve peace is impossible.

God has repeated, “Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destructions are in their paths. The way of Peace they have not known, and there is no justice in their ways; they have made themselves crooked paths; whoever takes that way shall not know peace.” (Isaiah 59:7-8)

The only way to Peace is Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6-7). He will end all wars and rebuke the nations and teach them His ways (Isaiah 2:1-4).That is the absolute guarantee for the future. However, Christians can have peace today, in spite of what is happening around us in this world. Let us not forget the natural calamities of earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, volcanoes, plane crashes and on top of it the suicide bombers, etc. Nevertheless, God has promised peace to those who love Him. It is found in Philippians 4:6-7: “Be anxious for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the PEACE of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” And again we read in Romans 5:1-2, “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have PEACE with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”

I say with the Apostle Paul (Romans 1:7), “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and Lord Jesus Christ.” Peace will come on this earth, but it will be on God’s terms.

Prayer
Father in heaven, I look forward to the peace and harmony and joy which You have promised. I pray speed that day, and I make this supplication in Jesus name.
Amen
