Prehistory

“He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light.”
Job 12:22 (NIV)

Prehistory is the time during the development of human culture before the appearance of written records. Scientists speculate, but find it difficult to ascertain, what happened before history was written down. They do not know for certain when the first man walked on earth – the theories abound and will continue to do so. When was the earth formed? The questions never end.

Christians are reassured in knowing that God is eternal – there is no need for speculation or pet theories. With God there is no prehistory, no vacuum of record. He is the fount of all knowledge and wisdom. He has always existed. The psalmist knew this in Psalm 90:2, ‘Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.’ There is no need for prehistory with God – He knows it all.

Humanity spends much time seeking out knowledge of all kinds and yet we still have wars, disease, and natural disasters. Our greed is destroying our planet earth despite all this learning. What we lack as a human race is the knowledge of God. In Jeremiah 33:3 we have a promise from God: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

Now there is an offer we cannot afford to ignore! Trying to figure out prehistory is pointless by comparison. We have eternity to look forward to when we will ‘know all things’. As we read in 1 John 5:13, ‘I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.’

Prayer
Thank you, Father in heaven for the certainty of you – thank you that you never change, you are a constant in our world full of doubt. We yearn for the day when we can see you face to face and to know you more.  In Jesus’ name. Amen.
